GERZILOV, V. and P. PETROV. Relationship between some blood biochemical parameters and fatty liver weight in force feeding of mule ducks. Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., 21: 1039–1043 The purpose of this study was to determine the phenotype correlation between fatty liver weight (FLW) and some blood serum biochemical parameters in mule ducks – alanine aminotransferase (ALAT), aspartate aminotransferase (ASAT), total cholesterol (Chol), alkaline phosphatase (AP), gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT), triglycerides (TG) and creatinine (Creat), and their possible role as predictors of the fatty liver yield. The birds were fattened and slaughtered under commercial conditions. The gavage of ducks with maize began at 74 days of age and continued for 13 days.At the time of flock slaughtering (total number of ducks − 620 from both sexes) blood samples were randomly collected from 25 male and 21 female mule ducks. FLW was measured individually by analytical scales (accuracy 0.01 g). We established positive phenotypic correlations between the FLW and some blood serum parameters for male and female mule ducks as followed: ALAT – rp = 0.475 (P < 0.01) and rp = 0.626 (P < 0.001); ASAT – rp = 0.495 (P < 0.01) and rp = 0.547 (P < 0.01); Chol – rp = 0.649 (P < 0.001) and rp = 0.564 (P < 0.001). The phenotype correlations between FLW and the other biochemical parameters (АP, GGT, TG and Creat) were weak and insignificant. A strong positive correlation between preslaughter live body weight and FLW was established for female mule ducks – rp=0.808 (P < 0.001), while for male mule ducks it was weak – rp = 0.114 (P > 0.05).

Influence of Overfeeding on Productive Performance Traits, Foie Gras Production, Blood Parameters, Internal Organs, Carcass Traits, and Mortality Rate in Two Breeds of Ducks

A total of 60 male mule ducks and 60 male Muscovy ducks were allotted into three groups (n = 20) to estimate the effects of overfeeding (two and four meals) versus ad libitum feeding on productive performance traits, foie gras production, internal organs, and blood parameters. The results show that force-feeding four meals significantly increased (P < 0.01) body weight, weight gain, and gain pe...

Effects of three beta adrenergic receptor agonists on growth performance, blood biochemical parameters, fatty acids composition and carnitine palmitoyltransferase I gene expression of rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss

Different beta 1 and 2 adrenergic receptors agonists might have various biological and physiological effects on fish species. An experiment was designed to study the effects of feeding ractopamine, terbutaline and metaproterenol; as beta1, beta2 and less selective beta2 adrenergic receptor agonists, respectively; on body weight gain, feed conversion rate, concentration of biochemical parameters...

Modeling the relationships between quality and biochemical composition of fatty liver in mule ducks.

The fatty liver of mule ducks (i.e., French "foie gras") is the most valuable product in duck production systems. Its quality is measured by the technological yield, which is the opposite of the fat loss during cooking. The purpose of this study was to determine whether biochemical measures of fatty liver could be used to accurately predict the technological yield (TY). Ninety-one male mule duc...

Sex impact on the quality of fatty liver and its genetic determinism in mule ducks.

Recent changes to French regulations now allow farmers to produce "foie gras" from both male and female mule ducks. The aim of this study was to assess the quality of female fatty liver and to compare, from a phenotypic and genetic point of view, liver quality in males and females. A total of 914 mule ducks (591 males and 323 females), hatched in a single pedigree batch, were reared until 86 d ...
